The picture shows the golf ball along the fairway/rough line.
The rough height has become a bit penal at 2.5 inches. A height of 1.75 to 2 inches is better suitted for the middle to high handicap players. With the heavy fertilization through out the summer we have created lush stands of Bermuda grass rough. We did get good coverage however it has been growing at a faster rate than we can maintain. All the Bermuda grass rough is cut Monday and ending on Wednesday Mornings. After two or three days the rough reaches a height of about 2.75 to 3 inches.
If we were to remove more than a 1/2" inch from the turf at this point we would scalp the plant and possible cause stress or death to the plant.
The good news is that over the next few weeks the Bermuda grass will be less penal because of the lower temperatures. This will allow for the Bermuda grass to settle down and allow for a more forgiven rough.
The rough around the bunkers has also created havoc on golfers. we have been trimming these areas every 14 days. Unfortunately we need to trim them about every seven to ten days to keep them more playable. These areas will also settle down over the next few weeks.
